Our Region & Community

The NSW Regional Health Partners represent an area the size of England, stretching from Gosford in the south, to the QLD border in the north, and west beyond Narrabri and Gunnedah. The combined area encompasses three local health districts and 32 Local Government Areas, representing the full range of small rural and remote villages, regional towns and densely populated urban centres.

The partners serve a population of more than 1.4 million people, including 10% (77,200) of Australia’s Indigenous population. 36% of the region’s people live in regional areas, and 11% in rural and remote locations; roughly the same population size as Philadelphia or Kyoto.

The region is home to two Principal Referral Hospitals, one Acute-Tertiary Referral Hospital, and six Major Hospitals (Group 1-2), as well as 11 Aboriginal Medical Services, 1700 GPs and more than 70 community health centres.

The Centre has a population base where substantial health impact can be achieved, and our regional demography is recognised to be broadly representative of regional and rural Australia.
